English | Francais Dortmund, May 09th, 2012 The 8th Scientific and Technologic Forum of the Cameroonian Diaspora (VKII-FoSTDiC 2012) will be held this year from May 18th to 19th. The Symposium will offer many insights in the areas of knowledge and technology transfer between the North and South based on the example of Germany and Cameroon. The program promises a wide range of presentations, plenary sessions, live demonstrations and parallel workshops. Program features include: - eKnowledge and a Transnational Network for Research and Cooperation . (including best practices at the University of Yaoundé I) - Tele Medicine (A solution to alleviate the effects of brain drain in medicine) - Framework for Cooperation with Sub-Saharan Africa (including state-of-the-art and best practices at the Center for International Migration and Development -CIM) - Institutional Framework for Cooperation in Science and Technology with (including state-of–the-art and best practices in German - African Cooperation) - Appropriated ICT based solutions and local innovation ….and lots more! On the first day of the conference, the forum will provide an outstanding possibility to receive an overview of knowledge and technology transfer between Germany and Africa in various fields. The plenary sessions will include high-level keynote speakers such as Dr. Thomas Dongmo (Responsible of cooperation activities at the Ministry of Research and Innovation in Cameroon) and representative of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development who will respectively present the institutional framework for cooperation between Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa and the Potential of Migrants in German Development Cooperation with Africa. Prof. Victor Mbarika (President ICT University - Founding Executive Director of the International Center for Information Technology and Development) will present knowledge transfer in international contexts based on the experience of the Indian Diaspora in the U.S., while Prof. Dr. Guy Tsala Dzomo (Vice Rector in Charge of Research, Cooperation and Relations with the Business World) will highlight some examples and best practices related to knowledge transfer in academic institution in Africa. Furthermore, representatives of the ICT industry such as SAP, IBM and Nokia will present their current activities in Sub-Saharan countries during the symposium. The second day of the conference will see to the opening of the marketplace “FoSTDiC Village” as well as four half-day workshops. Institutions funding projects run by migrant association such as CIM, Stiftung Umwelt und Entwicklung as well as international actors such as the United Nation University and professional associations of migrants will present their activities in the FoSTDIC Village. Practical live demonstration of telemedicine in Cameroon will be provided from by remote experts. The workshops will focus on topics related to funding possibilities of ICT cooperation projects and to eKnowledge and distance education, transnational network for research and cooperation, eInfrastructure, telemedicine, appropriated solution and local innovations in Sub Saharan Africa. Facilitation will be provided by the Transcendis Institute, comprised of Zena-Gabrielle Hailu and Anja Stiel. Reflected in the conference design are the principles of Kwanzaa , which "link the concept and practice of sharing the world, for the well-being and flourishing of humans [and the Earth] ". The number of participants is limited. Registration will be on a first-come, first-serve basis and participation can only be confirmed after payment of the registration fee.
