| Dr Ernest Simo wins the CPS Distinguished Award for Excellence in the Sciences |

Dr. Ernest Simo is recognized by the Cameroonian Professional Society for his outstanding work the sciences and engineering. The CPS Award for Excellence in the Sciences is given to Dr. Simo in recognition of the crucial role that his expertise has played in the advancement of the telecommunication industry. Dr. Simo depicts the impact that Cameroonian scientists are making all over the globe.
![]() Since the mid-80s, Dr. Ernest SIMO has conducted pioneering efforts in key technologies that are essential components of the Information Superhighway. Specifically, he worked with Hughes Network Systems to develop the first Generation of Very Small Aperture Terminals (VSATs) from 1983 to 1986: This class of small-size Satellite Communications Technology is currently used by thousands of private companies, News gathering, and Broadband media around the World. From 1986 to present he helped Motorola, Lucent, Samsung, Nokia, Bell Canada and Verizon in the development, performance evaluation and optimization of CDMA-based wireless Communications Systems. CDMA (Code-Division Multiple Access) is the key technology used in all cell-phones in North America, Most of Latin America, Japan and China. Since 1984, Dr SIMO has trained over 20,000 Telecommunications executives, managers and engineers in the United States and around the world (USA, Ireland, Israel, Canada, China, Hong-Kong, India, Japan, South-Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, The Philippines, Indonesia, Viet-Nam, Brazil, Peru, Ghana, Australia, Argentina, Columbia, Venezuela, Chile, England, and Mexico). He provided a series of CDMA training sessions to the team that implemented the first commercial CDMA network in the World: Hutchison Telecommunications in Hong-Kong (1994-1996). He also provided training to the Deployment and operations team of the first commercial CDMA network in the United States (Los Angeles, Orange County and Walnut-Creek- CA 1996-1998). Currently, he is helping leading US companies develop and launch the next generation of products and services in the areas of advanced wireless communications and information management (3G, EV-DO Rev-A, VoIP, IP-Based Packet Data networks and Long Term Evolution (LTE) networks). He is the author of a series of books, videotapes and audiotapes on satellite communications, VSATs, and CDMA technologies. Some of these references can be found online using the Google search engine. Dr. SIMO was a Finalist to NASA astronauts' selection process in 1994 and 1996. In 1994, His co-finalists included space Heroes Rick Husband and William McCool who were respectively Commander and Pilot of the Space shuttle Columbia which was tragically lost in Feb-2003. Source: www.cps-usa.org ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Namanga Ngongi: Winner of the CPS Distinguished Award for Leadership Dr. Namanga Ngongi, a renowned agronomist with a doctorate from Cornell University, is the first president of AGRA. With headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya, AGRA is an African-led partnership of farmers, scientists, governments, private-sector entities and citizens that aims to greatly increase the productivity and livelihoods of millions of small-scale farmers through sustainable, cutting-edge agricultural practices. It is funded by the Rockefeller Foundation and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. A native of Buea - Cameroon, Dr. Ngongi earned a bachelor's degree in agriculture from California State University in San Luis Obispo in 1968 before continuing on at Cornell. In 1984, he joined the U.N.'s World Food Program (WFP) as head of the East and Southern Africa Service and led operational activities in 17 countries in that region. He was appointed deputy executive director of WFP in 1994, and in 2001 he was appointed undersecretary- general of the U.N. and special representative of the secretary-general of the U.N. for the Democratic Republic of Congo. In that capacity Dr. Ngongi managed the peace-keeping operation in the country and organized several local peace negotiations between warring factions, while also facilitating the delivery humanitarian aid to starving and sick people. We are indeed much honored to recognize their extraordinary leadership and proud to present them with this distinct award.
